Wood design lamps: think about form, material & light together.

A handmade lamp is both a source of light and an object within the room. It is worth looking beyond appearance alone.

Scale should suit the sightlines of the room.

A sculptural light object needs enough space for its form to be appreciated. The footprint is only part of the equation – also consider the directions from which the lamp will be seen in everyday life.

Wood brings texture and warmth into an interior.

Wood is defined by grain, shape and surface. In one-of-one pieces, irregularity is part of the character. It becomes especially interesting when the material echoes furniture, flooring or other details in the room – or deliberately creates a contrast.

The quality of the light matters more than brightness alone.

For atmosphere, consider where the light falls, how soft or directional it feels and which surfaces it touches. A light object may be more effective as an accent and mood-maker than as the room’s only source of general illumination.

One of one instead of mass-produced.

With handmade design lamps, much of the appeal comes from forms and materials that cannot simply be reproduced identically. Under the name ReLights, ReNew Home creates individual pieces from wood, found objects and repurposed materials.
