Guide · Furniture Upcycling
Which furniture is suitable for upcycling?
Before replacing a piece, it is worth taking a closer look. If the basic structure is good, a new design can completely change its presence.
1. The construction should basically work.
A table may look old, but it should still be stable. With drawers, doors and fittings, it is worth checking whether they function or can be adjusted with reasonable effort. Major structural damage can significantly change the time and cost involved.
2. Size and function still need to suit the room.
Even beautiful upcycling will not help if the piece is too large or its function is no longer useful. The best candidates are often pieces whose shape and purpose already work, but whose surface or style no longer feels right.
3. Personal value is a good reason to upcycle.
Inherited furniture or pieces with a story do not have to remain in their original look. A new design can preserve the memory while helping the piece fit naturally into a contemporary home.
4. Surface and material determine the possibilities.
Solid wood, veneer, painted surfaces and mixed materials all react differently to treatment. That is why a photo is useful for an initial assessment. ReNew Home first considers which design direction is sensible and realistic.
5. Upcycling is allowed to look deliberately different.
The goal is not necessarily a traditional restoration. Colour, contrast, new details or a bolder treatment can turn an old piece into an individual element within the room.
